PERIOD (High Chronology)

1. LH IIIA: (1410 BC - 1315 BC)

    a.    Simpson [2014]: 21 'LH III(A-B)'

    b.    Simpson and Dickinson [1979]: 142 'LH III(A-B)'

    c.    Simpson [1981]: 118 'LH III(A-)B'

2. LH IIIB: (1320 BC - 1190 BC)

    a.    Messenia I: 242 'Sherds from the Palaiochori site include LH III B plain kylix feet, jug spouts, and painted fragments from deep bowls and kylixes.'

    b.    Simpson [2014]: 21 'LH III(A-B)'

    c.    Simpson and Dickinson [1979]: 142 'LH III(A-B)'

    d.    Simpson [1981]: 118 'LH III(A-)B'

    e.    Ålin [1962]: 86 ' ... IIIB-Scherben, ... '

NOTE

1.  With respect to site location Messenia I, 242, no. 58 says ' ... above and east of the village of Gialova, at the western extremity of the ridge called Dapia ... '. Also the site is on 'The summit ...'. This should be sufficient to place the site where I have put it but with this cavil. The elevation of the selected site is about 51 m. but our authors give the site elevation as ' ... ca. 80 m. a.s.l.'. And there is another summit, just 210 m. to the SE, that does have an elevation of about 75 m. I suggest, however, that McDonald and Simpson's describing the site as ' ... at the western extremity of the ridge ... ' settles the question.
