NOTE

1. The hill at F1186 is known as the Minoa. The harbor of Nisaia, F5393, is to its immediate E and is now silted up. Simpson [1981], plate 11b, presents a photograph of the Minoa captioned 'Megara and Palaikastro from south.' This picture was actually taken from the lower slopes of F1185 (Hagios Georgios) from ENE and facing WSW.

For a clear and useful map of the immediate area see Goette [1993] 308, fig. 91. It is instructive to compare Goette's map with that of S. Casson (Fig. 1 on p. 71 in 'The Topography of Megara', The Annual of the British School at Athens (19) pp. 70-81. 1912/1913) which is online here. The reader should particularly notice the different reconstructions of the Nisaia harbor.

For more on the name 'Nisaia' see Hansen and Nielsen [2004] 463 where they say: "Nisaia, the Saronic Gulf port of Megara (Thuc. 4.69; Paus. 1.39.4) associated with the island or promontory of Minoa (Thuc. 4.67; Paus. 1.44.3; Legon (1981) 29-32); ... "
