GENERAL SITE TYPE Tholos

TYPE

1.    Tholos.   Zavadil [2012], 583    'Ein zweites Tholosgrab vermutete Valmin in einem Weingarten in der Nähe der ersten Tholos. Eine Identifizierung des Fundortes ist schwierig, da sich dieses Grab nach Valmins Text 250 m nordwestlich, nach den Angaben im Plan (BullLund 1927/28, 186 Abb. 5) aber südwestlich der gegrabenen Tholos befinden sollte. W. A. McDonald und R. Hope Simpson fanden in 250 m Entfernung kein weiteres Tholosgrab. Allerdings entdeckten sie eine mögliche Tholos 150 m südöstlich der ersten und 40 m südlich der Bahn; nach Auskünften einiger Arbeiter Valmins handelt es sich bei dieser Erhebung um die von dem schwedischen Archäologen entdeckte Tholos.'
2.    Tholos.   Simpson [1981], 139    'A second tomb (not excavated) lies about 150 m. to southeast of the first and 40 m. south of the line.'
3.    Tholos.   Boyd [2001], 179    'The second mound is variously said to be 250m to the northwest, 250m to the southwest, or 150m to the southeast'
4.    Tholos.   Messenia I, 234    '...but there is a possible tholos ca. 150 m. to the S-E of the excavated one and 40 m. south of the rail line.'
