GENERAL SITE TYPE Pottery

TYPE

1.    Cult.   Simpson [1981], 132    'These (Mycenaean sherds, rhc) may be indicative of a cult here in Mycenaean times.'
2.    Cult.   Messenia III, 145    This cave was a possible cult location: 'The presence of the fine Mycenaean pottery seems to point to some kind of cult use rather than to ordinary habitation.'
3.    Sherds.   Messenia I, 235    'The interior of the cave contains a popular modern chapel and the floor is packed hard. But on the slope below the entrance we picked up numerous fragments of N pottery.'
4.    Sherds.   Simpson [1981], 132    ' ... just inside the entrance some fine Mycenaean sherds were found together with Neolithic.'
