TYPE

1.    hab.   Messenia I, 245    'It is natural to find a habitation site and associated tombs near the Koumbe spring.', 'The habitation site is ca. 300 m. W-SW of the spring and 100 m. north of the highway.'

NOTE

1. The position of C245, the hab site near Chandrinou, is erratically given. The position given here is based on the criteria in Messenia I, 245, no. 66. 'Koube (Chandrinou)'. I place the spring of Koumbe at 36.959335 N, 21.772161 E (F6477):

The hab site is 300 m. W-SW of Koumbe spring.
The hab site is 100 m. N of the highway.
The bearing to Vouno Chandrinou is 103°
The back azimuth from Ayios Athanasios (F303) to the hab site is 323° ('Bearing from site to Ayios Athanasios, 143°')

In Simpson [1981] 119, F31 we read that the Koumbe Spring is 400 m. north of the Kalamata-Pylos highway. This cannot be reconciled with Messenia I and I suspect that this is a slip.
