GENERAL SITE TYPE  Tholos

TYPE

1.    Artifacts.   Arachoviti [2013], 16    ' ... along with grave goods (vases, jewellery, arms).'
2.    Tholos.   Arachoviti [2013], 6    On the diagram/map on upper left of p. 6, nos. 5, 8. "' ... and sixteen tholos tombs were unearthed in this region (excavation map, nr.8,5,3). The tholos tombs stretched Northeast of the settlement, in small clusters and in close proximity to each other, apparently following a specific spatial plan.', ' ... tholos tombs of the mycenaean and protogeometric period.'"


PERIOD (High Chronology)

1. Late Helladic: (1700 BC - 1050 BC)
    a.    Arachoviti [2013]: 6, ' ... tholos tombs of the mycenaean and protogeometric period.'

2. LH IIIB: (1320 BC - 1190 BC)
    a.    Arachoviti [2013]: 16, The text says 'LHIIB' but I believe that LHIIIB is meant: 'Most of the tholos tombs at Aerino were used only during the Mycenaean period (LHIIB-LHIIIC), others only in the Protogeometric-Early Geometric period, but some of them were used in both periods.'

3. LH IIIC: (1190 BC - 1060 BC)
    a.    Arachoviti [2013]: 16, The text says 'LHIIB' and I have used that value but it is possible that LH IIIB is meant. "'Most of the tholos tombs at Aerino were used only during the Mycenaean period (LHIIB-LHIIIC), others only in the Protogeometric-Early Geometric period, but some of them were used in both periods.'"

4. Protogeometric: (1100 BC - 900 BC)
    a.    Arachoviti [2013]: 6, ' ... tholos tombs of the mycenaean and protogeometric period.'

1.  These tholoi are scattered generally to the E of the settlement on Aerino (C5216). See Arachoviti [2013], pp. 6, 8 for maps and diagrams.
