1.    Lithics.   Howell [1970], 81    ' ... the presence of eleven fragments of obsidian and chert argues favourably for prehistoric occupation ... '
2.    Lithics.   Simpson and Dickinson [1979], 82    'The presence of obsidian and shert further attests prehistoric occupation.' I believe that 'chert' is intended here.
