GENERAL SITE TYPE  Pottery

TYPE

1.    Pottery.   Kanta [1980], 13    'They (vases, rhc) presumably came from the old tomb which contained a sarcophagus ...'
2.    Sarcophagus.

PERIOD (High Chronology)

1. Late Helladic: (1700 BC - 1050 BC)
    a.    Orsi [1890]: 210, Or G? The protruding and squared ribs would represent the wooden pillars of the corners, which were in use in Homeric times ..., and even better in pre-Homeric times, when the Hellenic hut resembled the Italian even more and whose structure we know from the hut-shaped urns that have come into our hands.'

2. Late Minoan IIIA: (1420 BC - 1330 BC)
    a.    Kanta [1980]: 14, '...the tomb ... was in use during the latter part of the III A and the beginning of III B.'

3. Late Minoan IIIB: (1330 BC - 1200 BC)
    a.    Kanta [1980]: 13, '...the tomb ... was in use during the latter part of the III A and the beginning of III B.'

NOTE

1.  In Kanta [1980] 13 we read '...they presumably come from the old tomb which contained a sarcophagus described by Orsi.(1)' Footnote 1 says 'Orsi 1889-92, p. 208-211, pl. 1, fig. 2. Orsi says that nothing is known about the details of the discovery of the sarcophagus acquired by the Heraklion Museum.' In light of all this vagueness I have placed the marker notionally on the town of Pentamodi.
