NOTES

1. Originally dated to the Geometric period the foundational wall near the temple of Apollo Laphrios at Kalydon was subsequently redated to the Byzantine period. Mazarakis-Ainian points out that Geometric sherds were found in this area along with a bronze horse ([1997] 95). M-A appears to be suggesting that a Geometric dating might still be possible for this wall but he only says 'Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to clarify the date of the structure.'

2. 'The highest and northernmost hill of ancient Kalydon was the Mycenaean acropolis.'
