NOTE

1. Simpson [1981] 98, 'Kalliani' describes a report in a newspaper of the finding of a Mycenaean tomb in the town of Kalliani near a church of Hagios Georgios. He strongly implies that this was in Kalliani itself where there is, indeed, a church of Hagios Georgios (F828). But Syriopoulos (in Syriopoulos [1973] 201) says '... the site of Ay. Georgios 2 km. west of Kalliani village ... seems the most probable candidate. From Ay. Georgios Late Helladic tombs have been reported, and the site lies on an island of the Ladon formed by the main stream of the river and its tributary Tuthoa, the modern river of Lagadia: ...' So Syriopoulos says that the tombs were actually found near a different Hagios Georgios (F3196) which does lie close to the Ladon river even though it is nearer 4 km. west of Kalliani rather than 2. In her report Parker (who actually saw a cemetery) may, indeed, be referring to this discovery as reported by Simpson and Syriopoulos (she thinks so) or she may have come across a new cemetery site. I have placed the location of this find by using her map and photographs and I'm certain that the marker location given here is what Parker, at least, intends. See Parker [2008] 193-5 and photograph 5.16. Her photograph, 5.16, can be at least partly replicated in Google Street View from the position 37.690753° N, 21.903350° E and facing down the road to the N. Under the name of 'Kamini' Parker actually reports two sites. In addition to this first there is another potential cemetery at 37.684768° N, 21.893182° E, just directly S of the church of Hagios Nikolaos (F2902).
