GENERAL SITE TYPE Sherds

TYPE

1.    Sherds.   Simpson and Dickinson [1979], 365    'On the upper slopes of a low hill on the W side of Panornos Bay, at the NW tip of Astypalaia, some sherds of EB I type were found over an area c. 80 m. N-S by 50 m.'
2.    Sherds.   Simpson and Lazenby [1973], 164    'On the heavily eroded and stony upper terraces, sherds were concentrated over an area about 8 m. north-south by 50 m.'

PERIOD (High Chronology)

1. Early Bronze Age I: (3300 BC - 3000 BC)

2. Early Bronze Age: (3200 BC - 2100 BC)
    a.    Simpson and Lazenby [1973]: 164, 'The fabric was similar to that of the Late Chalcolithic or Early Bronze Age ware from Kastro tou Ayiou Ioannou above, ... '

NOTE

1. Simpson and Lazenby [1973] 164 mention several landmarks in this area. Of these the chapel of Ayios Nikolaos is F6206. The spring (as nearly as I can determine) is at F6207. They hypothesize a settlement on a hill just to the east of the spring and F6208 is employed here as a reminder of the possible existence of that settlement.
