NOTE
1. It is simple to identify the toponym Stena ('Narrows') with the shallow pass at 36.742457° N, 22.567867° E. After that no directions seem to help. In Laconia II Waterhouse and Simpson [1961] 115, note 9, provide directions which cannot, sixty years later, be associated with any recognizable places aside from Gytheio itself. The Aristeia Project suggests that 'The vases, an hydria and an amphora were found slightly E of the "pass".' They have derived this assertion from the footnote to Waterhouse and Simpson [1961] which I gave above. Nonetheless that is where I have put the marker.
